How often do you spend hours scrolling on social media, spiralling down a rabbit hole of self-loathing, aspiring to be skinnier, smaller, sexier?

How often do you look in the mirror and find faults in what you see?

Well, this is your sign to stop.

Stop trying to change your shape and size and start practising some self-love.

We know it doesn’t come easy, which is why we reached out to personal trainer and preacher of all things body positivity, Georgina Cox, for some self-love pointers and wellness tips.

Need some inspo on how to improve your mental health, as well as your physical health? She’s your gal.

Here are her top exercise and wellness tips:

WHAT DOES A TYPICAL WEEK OF WORKOUTS LOOK LIKE FOR YOU?
“I’ll always start the week listening to my body and appreciating what it’s capable of, sometimes thats lifting all the heavy weights and sometimes it’s gorgeous walks and yoga!”

WHAT ROLE DOES FITNESS PLAY IN YOUR LIFE?
“Fitness for me has been an integral part of building my self worth. Shifting my focus to what my body can do as opposed to how it looked changed everything for me!”

HOW DO YOU STAY MOTIVATED IN THE GYM AFTER CHRISTMAS?
“For me personally, motivation is fleeting... whether it’s after Christmas or any other time of year. It’s all about focussing on how good movement makes you feel, physically AND mentally, and how much you joy you get from doing it!”

DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE OR TIPS FOR OUR LOUNGERS WHO ARE NEW TO THE GYM BUT FEEL UNEASY ABOUT IT?
“Always remind yourself it’s completely okay to be a beginner at something you’re interested in and it’s okay to fail, because thats how you learn. You truly deserve to take up space, in that gym and in this life!”

CAN YOU NAME A FEW SONGS ON YOUR WORKOUT PLAYLIST?
“Three songs I am LOVING during my workouts at the moment are:

  • Stronger - Kelly Clarkson
  • Good as Hell - Lizzo
  • Confident - Demi Lovato”

WHAT ARE YOUR GO TO MEALS FOR TRAINING? WE WOULD LOVE TO TRY SOME!
"My go to meals don’t really change much whether I’m training or not, because regardless of how much I move my body I deserve all the glorious food! I do love breakfast food so that’s usually my preference - pancakes, french toast and fry ups!"

Feeling inspired? So are we.

Whether you’re a seasoned gym-goer or just getting started in the fitness game, we’ve all been guilty of choosing a night in with Netflix over that late night run after work, so don’t beat yourself up if you ditch the gym every now and then.

Remember, fitness isn’t a means of losing weight or fitting into a certain size clothing, it’s about feeling good in both your head, and heart.

If there’s one thing that Georgina’s taught us, it’s to stop focusing on what our bodies look like and instead focus on what they can do.

Stop that negative self-talk.
Stop thinking self-love is selfish.
Start treating yourself with a little kindness.

Be grateful for your body, in all its beauty.

It really is that simple.
