It’s that time of year again! Summer is the season to kick back, relax, and enjoy the sunshine (maybe with a cheeky G&T!) Ahhh, we love it!
But wait! Between the sun, sea and sand, both our skin and hair get a pretty rough deal during summer. And let’s face it… sunburn, frazzled hair and dry lips are not a good look!
Luckily for you, we’ve got you covered. Here are our top tips for keeping your skin and hair in tip top shape during the warm Summer months!

You knew this was coming…
Okay, we know how amaaazing you look with your sun-kissed glow, but seriously girls, resist the temptation to skip the sun cream! Yes, it protects you from sunburn… but did you know that it actually helps keep your skin tone even? Plus, by protecting yourself from ultraviolet rays, you are slowing down the development of wrinkles and leathery skin! (Goddess skin without sunburn? It’s a win-win!)
So before you head out to bask in the sun for the entire day, make sure you’ve applied sunscreen head to toe... (Yes, even the hard to reach places!)
As well as protecting your skin, you also need to make sure your hair is protected, too... An easy way of doing this is by putting down the heated stylers and letting your hair air dry naturally, it’s time to embrace your natural wave!
The sun gives off UV rays that can be extremely harmful to your poor, defenceless strands… but covering up with a chic hat or headband/scarf will stop your hair becoming dry and frazzled! As an added bonus, covering your hair will also keep it in place during visits to the beach, where wind from the sea can turn your beautiful barnet into one big tangly mess (that you’ll no doubt vigorously brush out, resulting in more damage!)
If you’ve forgotten your hat, don’t worry! You can use an after sun cream in your hair (yes that’s a thing!), or a sun protection spray to prevent UV damage. (Just spritz and go, simple!)
Ahh… this one works for both your skin and hair!
Hydration is key during Summer. Put simply, your entire body needs more water!
Obviously, the easiest way to stay hydrated is by drinking more water throughout the day. Keep a bottle by your side at all times! (Tip: set reminders in your phone if you are a little forgetful!)
We get that drinking plain water all day can get a little… well, boring. Try adding fruits like strawberries or lemon, or even a sprig of mint for a delicious refreshing boost!
Don’t fancy a glass of water? No problem! You can even keep your hydration levels up by snacking on foods that have a high water content. The most obvious one is watermelon (it’s literally in the name) which is 92% water, but apples are also 84% water and peaches come in at 89% water! (The snacking possibilities are endless!)
Let’s be honest… everyone loves a good face mask!
They are the perfect accompaniment to a glass of vino, bubble bath and candles after a looong, stressful day.
But girls, did you know that masks are an essential part of keeping your skin and hair looking their best during Summer, too?
Using a deep conditioning and nourishing hair mask once a week will stop your hair from drying out and reduce breakage, as well as making your hair so shiny! In-between hair masks, you can also swap in a hydrating SPF shampoo and oil-based conditioner for everyday protection, it’s as easy as that!
Need some serious hair nourishment quickly? Finish your routine with a pea sized amount of hair oil or serum through the ends, it’ll work wonders, trust us!
