At Home Face Mask Recipes

Jun 27, 2020

Ahh… who doesn’t love a good face mask?

They are perfect for taking the stress out of a not-so-perfect day, allowing you to finally unwind and relaaax...

We know that in the past months it's been a little more difficult to spend hours perusing through the shelves of your favourite beauty shop, so why not look a little closer to home for your next mask fix?

That’s right girls, we’re talking about the contents of your fridge! (Okay… we know what you’re thinking, but trust us on this!)

Now, when it comes to skincare there isn’t a ‘one size fits all’ option for healthy, glowy skin (though, how amazing would that be?!), so we’ve listed a few different options for you to try from the comfort of your very own home! (Goddess skin and not having to venture into the outside world?? Sign me up!)

We all have those days where our skin just looks a little… off. A little bit dry, a little flaky, we’ve all been there.

This DIY face mask will leave your skin nice and dewy!

-  ½ avocado
-  1 tablespoon of honey
-  A handful of oats

Okay, we know this sounds delicious but trust us… these ingredients will work so much better all over your face!
Honey helps your skin retain moisture without feeling oily
(plus, it helps with the appearance of scars!).

Oats have healing and moisturising properties and avocado is packed with ultra-nourishing oils to leave your skin silky smooth.

Simply leave for 15 minutes, then wash off.

Whether it’s an angry red acne cluster or a couple of pesky whiteheads, spots are never a good look.
(We totally feel your pain!) We all know that spot treatments can get a little expensive, so why not try something a little more natural?

-  1 tablespoon of aloe vera gel
-  A drop of tea tree oil

It’s no secret that aloe vera is a dreeeeam for the skin! It’s filled with vitamins, soothing, cooling and super hydrating!

When it comes to tea tree oil, it’s a natural antibacterial and acne-fighter but it’s waaay too harsh to slather over your skin on it’s own, (it can quite literally burn you!) so you have to resist the temptation to add a couple more drops! Be careful, girls!

Apply on clean, dry skin for 10 minutes, then rinse off, making sure you moisturise after!

Okay, we’re gonna be honest with you, there’s actually no real ways to ‘close’ your pores (heartbreaking, we know!), but hope is not lost! There are clever ways to obscure them!

-  1 tablespoon of honey
-  1 egg white
-  A little squeeze of lemon juice

We know this one sounds a little ‘out there’. But both the egg white and lemon juice have clever astringent properties which will tighten the skin and make enlarged pores less obvious (it’s like magic!).

We’ve already mentioned the moisturising properties of honey, it’ll keep your skin supple and take away that uncomfortable, taught feeling.

TIP: this is the perfect pre-foundation ritual, simply leave on for 10 minutes and rinse!

Let’s face it, there’s nothing more irritating than stubborn scars that just. won’t. disappear! Luckily we have a recipe for a dreamy face mask that proves you don’t need to reach for luxury scrubs and creams to achieve super smooth and supple skin!

-  1 tablespoon turmeric powder
-  1 tablespoon of honey
-  1 tablespoon of natural, plain yoghurt

Yoghurt is filled to the brim with lactic acid, helping to lift away rough and dull surface cells on the skin to uncover much newer, brighter ones! Plus, it's so soothing and leaves skin super soft!

Honey’s back with its moisturising properties! (It really is a magical ingredient!)

Turmeric is an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory that’s known to gently brighten discolouration on the skin.
(Say goodbye to scars and uneven skin tone!)

Simply keep the mask on for 10-15 minutes, then rinse off, followed by your usual face wash.

Right girls, the thing about DIY face masks for oily skin is that they tend to be filled with harsh, stripping ingredients that actually make oily skin more oily over time (it doesn’t make sense, we know!). The secret is to use gentle ingredients to absorb excess oil without completely destroying your skin.

-  1 egg white
-  2 tablespoons of fresh aloe (or aloe vera gel)

That's it, no alcohol & no harsh chemicals! Egg whites contain a natural antibacterial that can help to prevent clogged pores all while absorbing excess oil!

And though the recipe calls for it… we don’t expect you to have fresh aloe to hand (though with the popularity of aloe vera plants, it’s very possible!), so aloe vera gel works in a pinch. We all know that aloe calms, soothes and hydrates the skin and everyone should include it in their skincare regime! (It is sooo good for the skin, and smells amazing too!)

Leave on for 10 minutes, then rinse!

There we have it, some super simple, cheap and effective face masks to take your skincare regime to the next level.

But remember girls, before you go ahead and raid your kitchen cupboards, check all ‘Best Before’ dates on the ingredients you are planning to use! It is a good idea to do a patch test to see how your skin will react, too. (You just never know!)

Happy masking!
