How To Focus: Our Top Study Tips

Do you ever ask yourself “why is it so hard to focus?”. Don't worry, you’re not alone.

So many of us struggle with procrastination but don’t know how to improve concentration. You can buy all the fancy planners and all the LED lights for your uni room, but they can’t tell you how to stop procrastinating. That's why we’ve put together the ultimate guide to studying - our top tips will answer the nagging question of how to focus. You’ve got this!

Productivity Hacks

Want to know how to be more productive? Listen up: we've got a few small adjustments you can make to be more focused and get into study mode.

  • Avoid multitasking: Doing too much can disturb your focus. Instead, write a to-do list and give yourself priorities to streamline your workflow.
  • Take regular breaks: Sounds unproductive, right? Taking regular breaks from studying is a proven way to improve the quality of your work. We recommend following the 52/17 rule: work for 52 minutes, then rest for 17 minutes to gain the most productivity.
  • Say NO: Doing too much is a real thing - and it’s important to find a balance between tasks & time. If your plate is full and you can’t manage any more, it’s okay to say no when the girls invite you out (at least until you’ve finished studying, of course).

Being able to tick off your to-do list is a great feeling, but some days, it’s normal to feel like you just can’t. Remember it’s impossible to be 100% productive every day - you’re only human.

Our Studying Top Tips

Now, enough of the life hacks. Here are our top tips to improve focus, motivation and clarity while you’re studying.

Top Tip #1: Find The Perfect Environment

We’ve all been there: deadlines are approaching and sitting at your usual study spot just isn’t working for you. Finding the right environment can make you more motivated and increase your productivity. Everybody’s different - some like the calm-but-social atmosphere of a coffee shop, while others prefer the peace and quiet of a library. Whatever gets your creative juices flowing, it’s important to change up your study surroundings.

There are things you can add to your study spot to improve your environment that can have a big impact on your productivity and focus. Aromatherapy has been known to boost your brain, with herbal scents in particular helping to improve concentration. So why not set the mood, light some candles and have a date with your studies? Wild Friday night, we know - but it’ll be worth it.

Top Tip #2: Music

It’s so distracting having to change songs mid-thought or lose 20 minutes of study time whilst you find the right playlist to power you through your session. Well, look no further, as we’ve put together all the best music and playlist analysis needed to create your new go-to playlist, packed with the best concentration music.

Music is a known motivator - but when it comes to studying it's been proven to increase focus and even improve your ability to memorise information. Say goodbye to the surprise HSM interludes in the middle of your quiet study session and have a listen to the Best Studying Playlist.

Analysing many of the most popular studying, focus and relaxation mixes, we’ve found the songs that cropped up most frequently to build this powerhouse playlist. Featuring popular songs such as Snowfall by Øne Heart, which has over 500 million streams and is taking TikTok by storm - we’re confident you’ll nod your head to a few…

Top Tip #3: What To Wear

What we wear impacts our mood - and if you’re not revising in ultimate comfort, then you might be losing focus. In fact, according to studies, 61% of employees find they feel more productive with a relaxed dress code - so grab your go-to comfies, whether that’s baggy jeans, or an oversized jumper and dress, for the occasion. If your wardrobe needs an upgrade, we’ve got the comfiest loungewear to get you feeling focused. Treat yourself to a Cosy Knit Quarter Zip Jumper, an ultra-soft pair of Essential Leggings or even a comfy pair of Bamboo Triangle Briefs. Comfort Made Sexy is what we do best, but Studying Made Comfy is what you do best - dress for the occasion and increased focus will come.

Top Tip #4: Self-Care Is Key

From sleep to diet, almost everything we do impacts our mind - and small changes can massively improve your focus and productivity. Getting 8 hours’ sleep every night is key to mental focus when studying, so be sure to stick to a regular sleeping pattern and cosy up in quality comfies like our Ruffle Pyjamas. (Not that we’re biased).

Occasionally, a study day requires some junk food to keep you going but on the whole, maintaining a balanced diet makes you feel your best. There is such a thing as brain food, and a healthy body feeds a healthy mind.
