International Women’s Day falls on Monday 8th March and we’re kicking off the celebrations by bringing alll the positive vibes your way. Whilst we might not be able to get together with our besties this year and celebrate the day in person, International Women’s Day is still quite the occasion. After all, women are pretty awesome. So, we’re here to spread the Lounge love and lift each and every single one of you in the run up to the big day.

What is International Women’s Day?

International Women’s Day is quite a big deal and to be honest, we love anything that gives women the chance to celebrate their milestones. International Women’s Day is celebrated globally all around the world and aims to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women everywhere. That includes
your achievements too!

What is the history of International Women’s Day?

IWD has been making movements since the early 1900’s. In other words, women have been bossing it for over 100 years and we can totally see why. Check out our brief timeline of International Women's Day below.

How to Celebrate International Women’s Day

Whilst we might not be able to see our Female Family in person this year, there’s a lot of ways you can celebrate the day at home like a true Queen. From virtual Zoom celebrations to supporting local female-run businesses, we've got you.

How to celebrate international women's day

1. Big up your besties on the gram

Tell everyone why these particular women are superwomen and be each other's cheerleader!

2. Celebrate over a Zoom

Get a bottle of wine out (or make a cocktail if you wish) and have a mini toast over a cool Zoom background and loads of fizz.

3. Make an IWD playlist on Spotify and have it on repeat while you’re WFH

It will perk you up and encourage you to embrace all the girl boss vibes!

4. Support local female-run businesses

Whether it’s sharing a local business page on Instagram or buying from them, women supporting women is what we live for.

5. Read a book by a feminist icon

We’ve got quite the list here and to be honest, it’s pretty top notch.

6. Donate any old clothes to a local women’s refuge

We’ve got a lot of time on our hands right now and your wardrobe probably needs some TLC. So, instead of binning any old garms, support other women who might need them instead.

So, girls, remember to be each other’s cheerleader this year! Bring all the girl boss vibes to your Female Family and remind them just how special they really are. And don’t forget to show yourself some love too! Maybe a Lounge treat might get you in the bossing it spirit?

After all, International Women's Day is all about embracing and celebrating you!
