It’s time to catch up with some more of our Female Family!

Meet Marsha Elle, an amputee, model, influencer and singer who is challenging beauty standards and quite literally, changing the world! Marsha was born with Proximal Femoral Focal Deficiency (PFFD), a rare condition whereby the femur bone in the upper thigh area is malformed or missing, causing one leg to be shorter than the other.

However, Marsha’s strength, undeniable beauty and talent has allowed her to shine brighter than ever as she delivers hope to her followers on Instagram through her music and uplifting photos. We think she’s an absolute beauty.

See what Marsha had to say when we caught up with her below.

Let's talk music. You released your first song, 'Hallelujah' at the age of 17 - incredible! Tell our Loungers all about your passion for music and how that's inspired you.

Music has always been a free space where I can express my feelings, the culture, current events and even my personal experiences in a constructive way. Music is a universal language and I’m so in love with this melodic gift and my supporters.

We love how confident you are in your own skin. How has your condition encouraged you to embrace your identity?

I like to say that I’ve been an amputee all my life, but I truly began to embrace my disability when I met other amputees at Amputee Camp. Representation matters and gave me a boost in my self-esteem because then knew I wasn’t alone in my struggles. Through that encounter, I began a journey of self acceptance and creating my own identity through photography and modelling.

Was there ever a point where you struggled with body acceptance? If so, how did you overcome this challenge?

Growing up as an amputee was difficult especially after surgeries and having to walk all over again. I would wear big, baggy clothing in the Florida heat to avoid being teased and questioned about my leg.

Middle school and high-school were the toughest as I dealt with finding my identity and trying to be accepted and find friends at the same time. It was a very lonely period for me until I went to an amputee camp in Utah. That’s when I realised I truly wasn’t alone. That community gave me the confidence to embrace my body.

You've been challenging beauty norms for some time now. Do you think there is still a misconception about what real 'beauty' looks like?

Yes. Beauty is ever evolving. True beauty is from within - it’s how you treat people who can do nothing for you in return.

When you're not modelling or making music, what does a day of Lounging with Marsha look like?

Lounging for me looks like a cup of bold French roast coffee, a walk on the beach and a great book to read.

You've reached so many people on your platform, particularly other amputees. Did you ever think you would have such a big impact on people who share a similar story to you?

I always knew that my story was one that should be told. I never could have imagined how many hearts would embrace my story and relate.

Let's talk inspirational women. Who inspires you to be your truest, most vibrant self?

My mother. She’s the epitome of hard work, grit, compassion and grace.
