Want to meet more of the team at Lounge? We’re back with another incredible feature, this time with our Brand Boss, Melanie Marsden. We like to call her Momma Mel for short. She’s a work mum to every Lounger here at Lounge HQ and we absolutely adore her.

Mel co-founded Lounge back in 2015 with her partner, Dan, in their very own ‘lounge’ with just £1,000! Together, the couple mapped out everything from initial sketches and designs to branding and operations. Now, five years later, Lounge is the 5th Fastest Growing Company in the UK and Mel and have Dan both featured in this year’s Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list for 2021. Their journey truly is incredible.

Tell us all about your role at Lounge and what your day to day as the brand's CBO looks like.

Sometimes I wonder if I’m dreaming, to be honest - I’m literally playing out my dream role in real life. No day is ever the same, even more so since my little girl just joined our Female Family and is now just over 3 months old! My day essentially involves spearheading the overarching brand experience across all of our various platforms and reacting to an ever-changing landscape.

I am very connected to our social strategy, product design and creative output, working closely with my right hand men and women to create magic every day and ensure we’re talking to our female community with powerful and engaging messaging.
 

Tell our Loungers all about your background before Lounge. Have you always been a brand boss at heart?

Hm, I secretly like to think so, so yes! I’ve always been the friend that acted like mum, even when I was younger, so now that I’m able to imprint my personality into our brand values and connections, it’s very much a “pinch-me” moment.

I was really big on dance and musical theatre and have always been creative to the core. I was also, like so many of us, just a young woman trying to figure out my place in the world, and so I like to think that it’s that journey that allows me to use our platforms so powerfully now. I want to ensure other young women have a friendly hand to hold in a brand and feel connected to something that is more that just underwear. It’s family. 


What's your favourite part about the job?

The people. From our team of Loungers to our Female Family. I am just so amazed every day by the power of passionate and inspired people. The brand wouldn’t be what it is without them.


The Limited-Edition Brand Book pretty much encapsulates Lounge's story from 2015 onwards. Tell us a little bit more about it.

Our Brand Book book is a sort of Lounge capsule if you will. It’s a storyteller, capturing the brand’s elegance, its premium and luxury foundations, laced with natural beauty and unique qualities. It’s a documentation of who we are in 2021, something our community can collect, consume, and keep safe in their very own lounge, so that next year - the year after that, and ten years from now, they are one of just 150 people that will feel closely connected to our journey with this timeless insight into our brand through the years.

Lounge has grown massively over the last five years! What has been your favourite part of Lounge's journey to date?

Ooo, so hard! Like so hard! There are so many - my brain is now mushing all of my favourite moments into some sort of Lounge movie trailer, but I would say if I had to pause on one, the big stand out for me was our first FeelYourBreast campaign photoshoot. I have made friends for life in our Legends, and that day I spent talking with them about such raw and emotional experiences will be a day I know I’ll never forget. It instilled a passion in me that I live off every day now. Those girls are truly amazing women!

And of course, we have to ask you about your favourite campaign.

Hm, again...FeelYourBreast. Every year now is such a monumental moment for the brand and for me personally. I feel so honoured to be able to use the platforms that we have built and built over time, to now be able to spread such important and vital messages to our community. There’s just something so special about the campaign and everyone involved.


What's next for Lounge? 

Oh gosh, soooo much! So much is going on right now behind the scenes, it’s literally eye watering haha - and so much fun!

The sheer amount of beauty that we’re sampling right now is just insane, I cannot wait to share all of our gorgeous newness with our girls, as our designers are seriously stepping things up! We have some beautiful innovations in the making and so many delicate details too!

We’re also working long and hard on our footprint as a brand, so our community can definitely expect to hear us singing and dancing about the incredible steps we’re taking to protect our Mother Nature in becoming a sustainable brand.

And last thing, we’re moving HQ! So whilst our team are working hard from home, we are right now in the midst of making a beautiful glass building a home for Lounge - our new Global Headquarters. Dan and I are passionate about creating a space that inspires and excites our team on so many levels, so it’s safe to say there are some awesome days ahead for our Loungers when the world opens back up and finds its new normal.
