24th July is National Self Care Day 2020!
So we thought it would be the perrrfect opportunity to shed some light on self care and how important it is to incorporate
into your daily routine! (You have to take care of No.1, after all!)
Now, self care isn’t just putting on a face mask and running a bubble bath (though these are both highly recommended!),
something as simple as taking a walk or drinking a glass of water is classed as taking care of yourself!
We’re here with some quick and easy ways to fit self care into your daily routine (without disrupting it!).
Sometimes seeing your home screen full of notifications can get a little overwhelming… especially with the current climate
that we find ourselves in.
Honestly, one of the best things you can do in these moments is turn off notifications and take a step back. It is so freeing to not be faced with a wall of notifications whenever you check your phone. Trust us!
Also, don’t put pressure on yourself to reply to messages straight away if you don’t feel up to it - do everything in your own time.
(It can wait.)
Heading out for a midday walk sounds like it wouldn’t really make much of a difference, right!?… but honestly girls, try it!
Just pop on your favourite playlist, and away you go!
Being at one with nature has been found to give your brain a break from being overstimulated, whether it’s the fresh air, sunshine,
or a combination of both… we’re here for it.
Breathing exercises are well known to reduce anxiety and stress, but did you know they can actually improve cognitive function and encourage positive thought processes? (You learn something new every day- eh!?)
The simplest breathing technique is to count your breaths. You start by counting 1 on the inhale, 2 on the exhale, 3 on the inhale, and so forth. You can choose to count up to five, then repeat back at one. Quick and simple… you can even do it while you wait for the kettle to boil! (We all love a cuppa!)
With this we don’t mean running a marathon (though don’t let us stop you!), we mean simple goals that are quick to accomplish… like meditating for 15 mins, reading a chapter of the book that’s sat on the bedside table gathering dust, tidying the kitchen or finally clearing the office chair covered in clothes (we all have one!)
Our minds find comfort in accomplishment, no matter how small!
Finding balance can be difficult, but try to narrow it down to 4 key areas: mental, food, movement & relationships.
(It makes life so much simpler… trust us!)
Giving yourself a break from social media for a couple of hours daily will do wonders! *By the time you’re back, who knows, we might have posted something new and exciting for you to set your balanced balance on.
Even better, use the time not looking at your phone to do mindfulness meditation
(Tip: apps like Headspace and Calm are amaaazing for this!)
When it comes to food, try and stick with the concept of “eat the best you can, when you can”. If you manage to eat healthy meals for the whole day, amazing! If you reeeally fancy a donut… go for it!
Balance is key when it comes to your diet, maybe try some chocolate covered strawberries… the best of both worlds!
(And oh so delicious.)
We all know how amazing you feel after completing a workout, well… there’s a reason for that! They’re called endorphins.
Released by your body by movement, these neurochemicals are responsible for the boost of positive mental energy after exercise… girls, time to lace up those running shoes!
We don’t need to tell you how important your breasties are…
Simply sitting down for a chat and a cuppa with a friend can help you to clear your mind of any negative thoughts and put you in an amazing mood for the rest of the day!
But equally, if you feel like you need some alone time, don’t feel guilty for taking a rain check! Your breasties will understand!
