10 New Year's Eve Ideas for the Perfect At Home Celebration

Dec 26, 2020 · 4 min read
There’s no question that New Year’s Eve will be a tiny bit different this year.

Instead of heading out with our besties for a night on the town or jetting off away somewhere, many of us will be settling down for an evening on the couch Lounging (with a glass of wine...or two).

Don't get us wrong, we’re not complaining. After all, we tend to spend a lot of money going out for New Year’s Eve - the whole buying a new outfit, new jewellery, taxis, drinks, entry fees. It’s a lot. The past year has been challenging for so many of us and New Year’s Eve is a day to reflect and reset, so we’ve compiled a list of all the New Year’s Eve ideas you need to throw an incredible bash right in the comfort of your own home.

Read our list of fun things to do on New Year’s Eve below for the fanciest, most memorable New Year's celebration ever.

1. Have a New Year’s Eve Brunch

Everybody loves a good brunch, so you’ll want to include it in your plans for the last day of the year. Oh, and you’ll definitely want to add some cocktails (or mocktails) to the mix. If you’re wondering how to spend New Year’s Eve, this is definitely it.

2. Decorate Your Home for the New Year

It definitely wouldn’t be New Year’s Eve without a sparkly decoration or two. For a New Year’s Eve idea, decorate your home with balloons, confetti and everything you need to bring the new year in with a bang. You can even go OTT with 2021 balloons.

3. Host a Zoom Party

Now, we’ve probably all done the Christmas Zoom party, but what about a New Year’s Eve Zoom party? Come on, one more Zoom won’t hurt. Get into your comfies and bring the new year in with your besties, wherever they are.

4. Write Down Your New Year Resolutions

One of the best things to do on New Year’s Eve is write down all of your resolutions for the new year. Whether it’s cutting back on the chocolate, watching your spending or going to the gym more, try to cover things that relate to your health, career and finances and get ready to have your best year yet!

5. Have a New Year's Eve Dinner

A dinner party is always a good idea. More food? Uh, yes please.

Ring in the new year with another gigantic feast that everyone in your household will love. Maybe invite someone round who’s in your support bubble if you live alone for a New Year’s Eve to remember.

6. Watch a Movie

Just because it’s New Year’s Eve, it doesn’t mean the Christmas movie binge immediately stops, girls. For a New Year’s idea, light a few candles, get the blankets out and settle down with some snacks and drinks with a movie on the go. Cosy and luxurious.

7. Bake Something Sweet

We all deserve a treat, especially after the year we’ve had. Get your baking socks on this New Year’s Eve and start baking on the morning of the 31st. That way, once the new year rings in, you’ll have something delicious to hand to start your year right.

8. Watch the Ball Drop in Times Square

If you’re 'in the know' when it comes to American traditions, you’ll know that New Year’s Eve is a
biigggg thing over there. As a way to spend New Year’s Eve, watch the Times Square ball drop in the comfort of your own home. Luckily, there will still be incredible performances, so you can sing your heart out, pop all the Bucks Fizz you need and celebrate in style.

9. Make a Memory Jar

2020 has been a crazy one, but as always, there are things to be thankful for and memories that we’ve all made which are worth remembering.

Get an old jam jar, write down your achievements and memories on scrap pieces of paper from 2020 and put them into the jar so you can look back on it. You can even decorate the jar with a cute ribbon or bow. Then, when you’re feeling a little low, just pick out a memory to make your day a little brighter!

10. Have a Toast

Because who ever says no to glass of bubbly?

Pop a bottle of champagne and raise a toast to the new year. 2021 is going to be a year of positivity, opportunities and love, so celebrate the right way and let this be your best year yet!

So, now you know how to spend New Year’s Eve, which one of our ideas are you going to go for? From baking your own goods to extravagant dinners and virtual Zoom parties, there’s always something to do. Just because you’re at home, it doesn’t make it any less exciting!

If you're still hung up on all things Christmas too (we don't want it to end either, don't worry), discover more festive content below to add some sparkle to your New Year's Eve.

We love you, Loungers.
